Miscellanea
The Dark Knight DVD arrived yesterday! I'll watch it this afternoon with Gabriele.
Although not a fan of Viggo Mortensen, I'd ordered Eastern Promises, mostly because of Armin Mueller-Stahl, of whom I'm very much a fan. The movie didn't disappoint, and Mortensen is much better than I'd have given him credit for. I think the whole rendering of the girl's diary's contents could have been done a bit better, though - constant voice-over in faux-Russian-accented English wasn't the best of solutions, but all in all it was a good film. I suppose I'll have to look out for movies with Vincent Cassel, because he really is amazing. (Austrian friends: am I imagining an uncanny resemblance to Jörg Haider?) And Mueller-Stahl is just chilling. Such a kind paterfamilias, you think at the beginning, he can't possiby have anything to do with his son's criminal machinations, and then... Brr. Gave me goose bumps.
I'll be doing a bit of Christmas shopping later this morning, and then some grocery shopping, because I'd like to prepare some of the things for Christmas dinner and Christmas Day brunch beforehand. Janine will be arriving on Monday, so there won't be that much time for cooking.
Somebody on the flist mentioned the strange attraction of really bad fanfic, i.e. having to read on even though it's so bad you'd gladly take your eyes out with a rusty nail if only you didn't have to see any more of it. I just succumbed to the same stange impulse and keep wondering how an author who, according to her profile, is 21 could still think that penises have muscles..

As for strange fanfic, I always find deflowering scenes to be very odd in that so many writers seem to suggest that the hymen is somewhere up near the cervix.

Haven't come across one of those yet, but it sounds, er, interesting. Anatomy's a bitch, really. For a well-muscled penis, a hymen so high up wouldn't be a problem though ;-)

Oooh, yes he is. When I looked him up on imdb, I did of course remember why he seemed so familiar: he played the French arts expert/thief in Ocean's 12 and 13, and boy, was he sex on a shtick!
