Totally pissed off and in a hurry
Sep. 10th, 2003 07:30 amSo my dull office day has been spiced up, considerably. Yesterday, I was told that I'll have to give a 20-min statement (in English) about foreign cultural policy on Thursday, stepping in for somebody else who was grateful she didn't have to do it but couldn't tell me what exactly is expected of me. I spent yesterday afternoon trying to contact the organizers of the event--to no avail. Everybody was in a meeting. This morning, I finally managed to speak to one of them, who told me--oh joy, oh joy--that the topic of my statement (and following panel discussion) is NOT just cultural policy, but cultural cooperation with developing countries. Of which there is almost zero, which means that I have to either embellish things or present things as they are (i.e. very, very embarrassing). I'm going to do the latter of course, but still, I'll have to do quite a bit of research to gather at least *some* facts.
