Maybe I ought to get a lobotomy
Jan. 25th, 2004 04:23 pmTo have this atavistic part of my brain removed, which howls and cringes in discomfort whenever something's wrong in my nest flat. I hate it hate it hate it. I want to bask in the knowledge that, when I go home, it'll be to find everything running and in order. So let's hope the plumbers, whom I've seen way too often these last days, will be able to fix the heating tomorrow morning.
But the temperature is still within tolerable limits (20° isn't ideal, but neither is it arctic).
The morning was peaceful and pleasant. I got up at 7.30 (after 9 hours of sleep. Luxury) and spent some time at the PC, drinking tea and cuddling ze boyz, then did some minor household chores (there's no point in thoroughly cleaning, as the plumbers will be here tomorrow) and finally settled down in the living room with my sewing. Listened to the first half of Othello (this opera will never cease to amaze me) and then switched to the radio. Ought to have finished Othello, though. I really don't have any tolerance for medium-quality concerts. Mostly the conductor's fault, though, because the Chamber Orchestra of Europe are quite good. But Mr. Mark Albrecht is *not* a good conductor. Stravinsky's 'Dumbarton Oaks' concerto for strings was decent enough, and Mozart's violin concerto #2 wasn't bad. But what the man did to Mozart's Haffner Symphony was difficult to forgive. I mean, only because an orchestra *can* play fast, doesn't mean you have to execute a piece at breakneck speed. Yuck. Totally yuck. Anyway, I made some noticeable progress with my sewing.
The rest of today will be dedicated to laziness and recharging the batteries. Janine videotaped a movie yesterday--'The Villa', based on a Somerset Maugham novel, starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Sean Penn and Anne Bancroft. Given the cast, it might be quite interesting.
It's still very cold, and if the weatherforecast is correct, it's going to start snowing in the evening.
