It's Saturday, and I'm updating...
Apr. 30th, 2005 08:23 am...which leads to the inevitable conclusion that I've got internet access from home. (Yes, I might be at the office, but I'm not that far gone. Yet.)
Notebook has replaced old PC, which means lots of space for ze boyz to sit on the table and glare at the screen.
The last weeks have been quite stressful, mostly because of an unexpected trip (work-related) to Prague which I had to squeeze into an already busy schedule. Now I'm 1 1/2 reports behind and have just about caught up with my regular work.
But Prague... Ah, it's the most beautiful city in the world. Last time I went there was about 10 years ago, and it has improved a lot since then. Of course there's millions of tourists, but one has to bear in mind that tourists bring the city the money it needs to be even further embellished. A necessary evil. What I found extremely disappointing was the Old Jewish Cemetery, which I had imagined a lot more poetic. In reality, it's all very cramped with too little space to walk between the tombstones. Or maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.
Due to the Prague trip, I was unable to take 21 and 22 April off from work. I'd have loved to, because Klaus and I had opera tickets for the 21 (Strauss's 'Elektra'), and I prefer going to the opera well rested instead of after a 9 hour office day.
But I managed to take off the 28th and the afternoon of yesterday. (Which is why I've got internet access, because I finally had time to stay at home and have the technician come and fix it). I also meant to buy some thingies for my flat. Why, oh why is it that I seldom am in the mood for shopping when shopping is possible? Well, I bought three lamps for the living room, which is something. But trudging through shops makes me so very tired...So I still have to get a coat rack and something for the TV+DVD player. Oh, and new lamps for the bathroom. Those I have currently are impossible, since I can't change the bulbs myself, the lamps being directly under the ceiling which is 3,5 m high. Stupid vertigo, but then there's nothing I can do about that.
The day before yesterday I went to see The Merchant of Venice together with Marlene, a friend I met at work. Pacino and Irons in one and the same film... Aaaah, the bliss! And isn't it lovely to see a film without any unnecessary things like extensive takes of landscape or lots of music? Just the play, totally focusing on the actors' faces and gestures. I loved it and have to see it again, at least twice. If only for Irons's voice, which beats Rickman's by several lengths.
And now I think I'll have a shower and then breakfast at the Kaffeehaus. Three hoorays for living in the city centre!
Oh, and this afternoon at the gym, I'll have my second fitness check done. Complete with measuring of body fat. I'm so curious how the results are going to be different from those of the last check, performed in October!
ETA: I found a very spiffy coatrack today, and moved some of the furniture. Result very satisfying. Boyz in total uproar, testing new racing tracks recently freed by removal of furniture. Now I'll have to bribe Daniel and one of his friends into taking the now-useless pieces to the communal dump. €100 plus the fee one has to pay for dumping the things should do the job, and I'll have my living room junk free (right now, superfluous pieces are stored in a corner, because I can't take them to the cellar on my own).
I'm feeling very satisfied and lazy now, maybe I won't go to the gym this afternoon but allow myself a well-deserved rest. There's time enough for sports tomorrow.
