I've started re-reading OotP today, out of some warped sense of duty - somehow I got it into my head that, if I'm going to write again, I have to know canon better.
Argh.
Why oh why did the editor let the woman get away with phrases such as 'he opened his eyes to their fullest extent' or 'his heart was beating an erratic tattoo against his Adam's apple'???
I've read ~150 pages so far and developed a wholly new sense of hatred for Molly Weasley. I used to like Sirius quite a lot but can't stand him anymore. Hermione is wonderful. JKR's mathematical skills are deplorable - if there are hundreds of wizards working at the MoM, but only a few hundred children at Hogwarts, that means that either the birth rate is decreasing faster than the EU's (which somehow doesn't seem to fit), or the MoM is the largest ever administrative body in history, which somehow doesn't seem to fit either. So I suppose it all comes down to JKR being crap at basic arithmetics.
But the annotations I made upon first reading the book are very entertaining.
