The dangers of writing Lumione
Apr. 22nd, 2007 10:27 pmI started writing the sequel to The Canterbury Handfasting today. (Therapy has been indefinitely postponed - there simpy isn't any therapist I hate sufficiently to do this to him or her)
I love writing Lumione. I can't write dark and twisted Lumione, though. Hermione is the least twisted person I know (Therapy Alert!!!) and she'd simply hex Lucius or walk away if he dared become dark or twisted.
Slightly angsty Lucius is ok. He spent some quality time in Azkaban. I've almost finished HBP - Dumbledore says 'Poor Lucius, I suppose he is almost glad to be in Azkaban now' - so I suppose he didn't have much fun during that interview with Voldie when he had to confess what exactly had happened to the diary. So slightly angsty Lucius is fine, and slighty crazy Hermione too, depending on how much damage the war did to her.
I realized the dangers already when I wrote Secret Conversation, and they bared their ugly fangs at me today as well.
There is no way around the fact that Lucius is a rich aristocrat with a shady past.
There is no way around the fact that Hermione is a clever, ambitious and sometimes quite ruthless young lady.
There is no way around the age difference of ~25 years (because Lucius is 41 in OotP)
This is the stuff Regency Romance is made of, amongst other ingredients.
Regency Romance is a very serious danger. I don't want to write Regency Romance (stupid, I know, because I could make a lot of money).
The good thing is that Lucius and Hermione engage in verbal sparrig whilst engaging in sexual intercourse. This makes avoiding Regency Romance a bit easier, but it's still a bitch.
Otherwise the sequel is coming on nicely. No threesome tendencies so far, but I'm working towards it. Successfully, I hope.
