Due to a dry winter and spring, there's a massive water shortage in Turkey. This means that, since the end of June the water supply of Ankara has been cut every two days for 48 hours. Being fortunate enough to live in a modern building, I didn't really feel that up till now, because the water tanks are big enough to get us through those 48 hours, if the water is used economically.
But then one of the main supply pipes burst on Wednesday, and since then the whole city of Ankara has been without water (with temperatures between 35 and 40°, and 42 predicted ofr the weekend). The tanks of my buiding are empty, no water since yesterday night, and there won't be any till tomorrow.
That means: Emptying the dishwasher, washing the dirty dishes in very little mineral water, cleaning the dishwater and rinsing with mineral water + vinegar. No shower, but washing with a wet cloth. And, worst of all, no flushing the loo properly.
All this because the mayor - who just announced loudly that, if there's no water, it's Allah's will - didn't think it necessary to contact the National Water Board and ask them to establish an emergency water supply for the city, as did the mayors of all the big cities.
At 2 p.m., the Embassy's water tanks were empty as well, so I had the gardener fill buckets with water from the swimming pool and carry them to the toilets.
Just: WAAAAAAAH!!!
The worst problem is, of course, that there are the first cases of intestinal fever (people drinking unboiled water from contaminated wells etc. - mineral water is relatively expensive, and there's lots of really por people), but hospitals don't admit any more patients because they don't have enough water, either.

Why in bloody hell does this country think they're fit for the EU?????
