Mar. 11th, 2009 09:26 pmA girl came to the Embassy today (Turkish, Austrian residence permit), who claimed she'd fled to Turkey because her father had killed her sister and now wanted to kill her, too.
So we called our police attaché -- this wasn't really a consular matter, firstly because the girl wasn't Austrian and secondly because, where murder is involved, I prefer having an expert to deal with it.
In the end it turned out that she'd run away from home the second time, this time to live in Ankara with her Iraqi boyfriend, and didn't want daddy to co after her and take her home.
Some people will resort to rather extreme measures. Although she was gracious enough to change the story a bit in the end, i.e. that it had been her uncle to kill her sister.
I ordered two Bulgarian textbooks today, because the people at the Embassy in Skopje assured me that it's so similar to Macedonian that starting with Bulgarian isn't a problem. Which is a good thing, because I haven't yet found any Macedonian textbook.
