Picspam to follow later, but I just have to say that I found a fantastic flat. 123 m² (i.e. perfectly within the limit), halfway up the Vodno hill -- 15 to 20 min walk to the Embassy -- in a brand new building. Landlord, apart from being gorgeous (of course married with 2 children), is *very* nice guy.
I'd known already that I liked Skopje, but now I've fallen in love with the city.
And what's more, once I was there and had found the place where I'm going to live for the next 4 years, I suddenly felt all the heaviness fall off my shoulders. I can hardly describe it -- it had come on so slowly and gradually, and of course I knew I wasn't all right, but I hadn't been aware just *how* bad it had been. When I woke up on Saturday, after a horrible night on a too-soft mattress, I felt energized and refreshed. The appointment with the landlord was scheduled for 12 pm., so I went for a stroll through the center. And I thought, oh my god I'm going to lift off and fly. I had to sit down on a bench and cry a bit, because I was so happy.
Tomorrow I'll book my ticket for 27 June, so I'll have 10 days off in Skopje; enough for getting to know the city, doing some shopping, helping ze boyz to acclimatize etc.
I'm glad the flat has air con, because from what I heard the temperature usually goes up to over 45° for 1 or 2 weeks in July. It was 34° yesterday. There were 4 flats on offer in the same house, and I picked the north-facing one. A very wise decision. And the landlord agreed to have the nets on the 2 balconies put up before I arrive, so I can keep the doors open during the night.
OK, enough for now, I have to get some dinner now and wind down a bit, or I won't be able to sleep.
But I'm HAPPY!!!!
