...is the email backlog one has to wade through afterwards. Although, to be honest, it was practically 3 days' backlog, because I spent most of Monday out of office, and Tuesday wasn't a holiday in Macedonia, so mail kept coming in. I've succesfully tackled it, though.
Apart from accumulating mail, yesterday was indeed a good day. It was raining, so I spent the morning at home (Janine still asleep, poor sick thing), reading on the couch.
Then there was the lunch, the original purpose of which had been to introduce Carla and Stelios. Poor Carla had been struck by a virus or food poisoning, though, and thus couldn't come. Stelios did come, and the very favourable first impression was confirmed to the fullest. Imagine that the guy came home on Tuesday after a long weekend in Greece, only to find that one of the radiators in his flat had burst, filling the whole place with water, floodmark 25cm. Everything ruined, whether furniture, rugs, shoes, floor... And he actually apologized for not showing up at our reception. And then he apologized for being 10 minutes late for lunch. I informed him that, had something similar happened to me, I'd be sitting somewhere banging my head against the wall, and would surely not come to a lunch dressed in a slightly eclectic mix of the only dry pieces of clothing I possessed. But a good time was had by all and sundry, including myself, even though playing tennis right afterwards was a bit on the torturous side. Then again, better burn those calories right away. And the trout was delicious and certainly worth it.
Since Friday's diplomatic mail contained, among other stuff, season 4 of How I Met Your Mother, I started watching it last night. Wine, salted almonds, a few slices of salami, two boyz curled up in my lap, and HIMYM. Heaven! And I slept 8 hours!
Boss will be on holiday from tomorrow to the 4th. He won't be participating in the marathon, or not running it in any case -- it seems that there is also a possibility of starting two hours earlier, i.e. at 7 a.m., and doing the whole thing power-walking. Sounds much better, not to mention safer, and won't be as bad for the knees as running would be.
So I'll be very busy and important next week -- "busy" is unfortunately true, because there's a lot going on right now (conferences, press conferences, receptions, meetings et.), but the weekend will be a long one (All Saints' day is an official holiday) and so I'll certainly be well rested. More or less well rested, given the activities already planned. In any case, please keep your fingers crossed for the "I believe in the better weatherforecast" trick to work again! If BBC is wrong and the others are right, it will be cold but sunny, which means tennis and running or maybe another hike up the Vodno.
Latest news on Mr H being a bastard without the least shred of interest in me (zenitude firmly in place, epithet "bastard" pronounced with utmost chilly detachment): Remember that I'd asked him whether he was free on the 6th for dinner? Well, yesterday we received the information that he's going to be out of the country till the 7th. OK, I know, he has got other stuff on his mind, and probably he even forgot about the dinner, but that's exactly what makes him a bastard without the least shred of interest in me. *shrugs* OK, that means I'll only have 5 guests, less to worry about because I don't need to fret over onion-free recipes, and no need to squeeze 3 people on one side of the table. Should he return earlier (which is a distinct possibility -- not conjecture, but 2 people told me he might) and should he actually remember the invitation and call (ha, ha!), I'll just reply, in the loftiest possible tones, that I saw the written information re. his absence and had no reason to assume he'd be here. Git.
Nothing else to report. Will skip Czech reception tonight, go to gym and grocery shopping instead and then head home for more HIMYM and laziness. Tomorrow I must go to the Turkish reception, because boss won't be here, but today I'm free to decide.
