Yesterday I finally realized that playing with the Trio Infernal helps a lot. Lola gets so absorbed that she totally forgets to hiss, Cornelius isn't adverse to chasing the occasional ball, and Lucius is interested, although playing is really beneath him. Plus, a toy mouse thrown at the right moment considerably de-escalates an otherwise tense situation, without any direct interference by myself. As does "casually" stepping or walking between the two participants of a staring contest. Lemme tell you, I did a lot of "casual" cleaning yesterday.
Since I didn't want to force anything, I renounced the project "breakfast together", but am happy to report that each member of the trio ate in the kitchen while at least one "enemy" was present, if not eating at the same time. That's progress.
And they're terribly interested in each other, which is also good -- once Lola understands that she doesn't have to be constantly on the defensive, because ze boyz won't harm her (unless of course she insists on preemptively hissing and growling), things will get a lot more relaxed. And playtime seems like a very good method to achieve exactly that.
There almost was a clash this morning, but due to a misunderstanding: Lola was exploring the bedroom balcony, with Cornelius sitting next to the door, observing her. Since the door wasn't fully open but held in place, half-closed, by two heavy objects, there wasn't room enough for Lola to simply walk in and past Cornelius; she had to jump over the heavy object. I came into the bedroom, looking for my cell phone, she saw me and wanted to get to me, jumped, and Cornelius obviously thought she was attacking him. Fortunately she's quick, so he didn't get her, because he clearly meant to bite, and that wouldn't have gone well. It was very obviously a misunderstanding, though, because for the rest of their together-time nothing similar happened.
Of course Lola didn't want to go back to her room before I left for work, and yowled horribly when I'd finally managed to lock her in, but that can't be helped. I closed her window and left the living room balcony door half open, so ze boyz can sit on her windowsill, if they feel like it, and they may converse through the glass. Better than nothing. Plus, they all need a bit of a time-out. It's stress for all of them, and some hours of quiet and sleep will do them good, also because they're terribly behind on sleep on account of all that watching and posturing. There was some sleeping yesterday, though, in the early evening in the living room, with ze boyz on the couch with me and Lola on "her" armchair. I must say I enjoyed and needed it as well, since I, too, am constantly in a state of semi-alert, ready to interfere.
