Me, aged about 2 years, ears still in their natural state of sticking-out-ness:

Cute, huh?

Yesterday was a good day. Running in the morning with Irene and Stefanie -- boy, was it hot! Even though the ground isn't warm yet, one mustn't forget that the sun is already as high and hot as at the end of July. I'm getting the usual sports tan lines, but for the time being I'm being very zen about it.
After running, the yummiest of yummy omelettes: melt butter in a pan, add green asparagus (tips, and maybe 5 cm of stalk, sliced as finely or roughly as you like). Let asparagus roast for about 5 minutes on medium heat, add finely chopped young garlic. Once the asparagus is almost cooked, add the egg with salt, reduce heat, wait till egg is done. Good people sprinkle herbs on top. I used truffle oil.
Later in the afternoon I met the new colleague who's going to take Charlie's place on 1 July, and who'd come to Skopje to look for a flat/house, because his wife is pregnant -- child will be born in September -- and he'd like to move in right when they arrive. Very, very pleasantly surprised. He's 41, very sympathetic, plays tennis (yay!!!), likes sports, and has excellent consular experience. Also, he seems very quiet, in a good way, i.e. not introverted but imperturbable. I think we're lucky to get him.
Evening was quiet and uneventful.
Trio infernal let me sleep till the alarm rang, fo which many thanks. Morning antics weren't too bad, so I decided not to wait until Slavica arrived -- if they wanted to kill one another, they could do so while I'm having my shower, and the probability of them doing any harm to one another during the half-hour between me leaving and Slavica arriving is just as high or low.
Cornelius has perfected the art of Looming Impressively -- he's lucky Lola doesn't know that it's sitting there and getting his eyes into focus, rather than Looming Impressively. His sheer bulk makes him impressive, even though I think he might have lost a bit of weight on account of all that running. Good for him.
They still don't really eat together, except by coincidence, but that I think is due more to being terribly busy when I dole out the food, than to not wanting to eat together. It's a good thing I don't have to keep any of them on a diet, though: there are three bowls of dry food -- older cats, Siamese, and young female, and as far as I can judge it, everybody eats from every bowl, despite my dire warnings to ze boyz that they're going to grow tits if they eat Young Female, and to Lola that she's going to turn beige but keep her yellow eyes, if she continues with the Siamese food. Impossible to make a cat not do something it wants to do, plus I don't want the feeding to turn into some kind of battlefield. So long as all three bowls are empty, and each of them eats from each bowl, it's ok.

And finally, the punch line: does it surprise anybody that Alexandra left neither enough water nor enough litter for the new cat, before she went to Austria on Friday? The fact that the supermarket where you can order via internet didn't have litter doesn't seem like an acceptable excuse.
OTOH, as I said to Dicky, by taking in the new cat Alexandra has handed me the perfect argument for keeping Lola. Not to mention that her declared intention of bringing her dog to Skopje in summer and "introducing Lola to the dog" was the final straw -- there's no bloody way I'll let her "introduce" Lola to a rather big dog, considering the way Lola reacts whenever she hears dogs barking. Over my dead body. Or Alexandra's, I don't care. I'll be generous, though, and give her the money she paid for Lola's operations, vaccinations and chip.

Critters are being a bit edgy -- no idea why, but I guess that just happens from time to time -- so I'm not going to bed yet, even though I'd really like to, but staying up and supervising/playing.
I also had a long skype conversation tonight with my brother.
Even though I'm rather embarrassed by my own stupidity, it took me about 6 months to finally realize that the reason why he always seemed to be offline while he was definitely online, was the fact that he was in my contacts under his old username.
OK, so we cleared up that particular misunderstanding, and then we talked about this and that, and at some point he mentioned that he'd been making good progress with digitalizing an enormous number of old photos, among them many of his little sister.
Honestly, I'm not fishing for compliments, but I just *love* this one he just sent me. First day of school:
