Keeping up the good intentions
May. 26th, 2011 09:24 amSo, I wrote a mail yesterday to Alexandra but didn't send it, since I was still angry (still am BTW), and I don't send angry mails on principle, i.e. not before having left them in my drafts box over night.
In the evening, after tennis -- amazing what tennis does for one's mental hygiene -- I thought, what would the mail achieve? It was full of righteous anger, but so was the one I wrote her at the end of April (even though that one was a bit more carefully worded), and did she take it to heart? No she didn't.
Plus, unfortunately I have to keep in mind that Alexandra is the president of the Macedonian-Austrian Business Association, an otherwise rather unimportant organization that occasionally sponsors one of our cultural events, and thus all-out private war would certainly have a bad impact on the professional side.
In the end I just wrote her a short sms expressing my regret that I wouldn't be able to look after the cat this weekend, and left it at that.
If she asks -- we're going to meet tonight at a cocktail said Association is giving, and which I must attend -- why I said no, I can still elaborate, but it won't be in writing, which is much better IMO.
But I'd still like to strangle the irresponsible cow.
And I'm trying hard not to think about the other cat. MUST. NOT. GET. INVOLVED. I only have to remind myself how wrung-out I was feeling after the X-mas holidays and two visits per day to Lola, for almost three weeks, when Alexandra hadn't yet moved into the flat next to mine. Or of the stab I felt every time I had to leave Lola and go back home, when she looked after me with big yellow eyes. No more of that.
The Unholy Trinity is doing well, BTW. Yesterday I tried a new brand of dry food for senior cats, and lo, they actually eat it. This means that now Lucius eats the Siamese food (good, because it has the most calories), Lola eats the food for senior cats *sigh* and Cornelius the debutante food (Young Female). *sigh* But at least I don't have to worry Lucius might lose weight. Cornelius, OTOH, has lost a bit, which is excellent. Lola is more or less slim, with a nice little embonpoint that suits her to perfection.
Last night they all played with toy mice, bless their furry little arses. At one point I threw one for Lola, and she raced after it, and smack into Cornelius who was just coming round the corner. Both were suitably shocked and ran in opposite directions, so I was free to laugh, because it looked extremely funny.
Lucius, poor boy, who has always been a bit of a drama queen, has developed something like a corner paranoia -- Lola might be lurking and jumping at him. Since this is the only visible alteration of his behaviour so far, I can't say I'm worried. Otherwise, ze boyz are as affectionate as ever, and they don't spar as much anymore as they used to, which is good.
Since I have to go to Vienna on 27 June for professional training, I'll have to leave them by themselves for quite a long time. I booked the ticket (which the ministry is paying for) a while before Lola joined us, and thus booked the return flight for Sunday, 3 July. Given the change in situation I think I'll get another return ticket for Friday 1 July -- the original reservation can't be changed -- because, well, leaving them on their own from Monday till Friday is one thing, given that Slavica will be there every day, and Irene's going to visit them in the evening, but Saturday and Sunday... no. That might be too much. I just hope there's still an available flight on Friday, whichever time. It won't be cheap, but 1) the critters are more important, and 2) I'm going to rent out my flat anyway, which means a lot more money per month, so I can easily spare the € 200 or so the ticket costs. I have, after all, been known to spend money for worse purposes.
ETA: ticket iz booked. Me iz feeling much better now.
