Plane was late. Instead of at 2 a.m., I got home after 3. Unpacked, cuddled critters, went to sleep shortly before 4. Fitful dozing most of the time, got up at 7. Tiiiired. I'll have to cancel tennis I'm afraid, but even though the weather is wonderfully cool, I don't think I can play from 9 to 11. Or maybe I'll try... Let's see. I have an hour to decide.
Vienna was a very mixed bag.
Training was worse than expected, in that the programme we were being trained to use is every bit as horrible as expected, but the trainers didn't have much of a clue a) how to hold a training course and b) how to use the programme.
So the fact that the week was a good one owed absolutely nothing to those hours of boredom and frustration, but everything to spending time with friends, which was lovely and wonderful and all kinds of great.
The weather was fine, too, and I went running on Wednesday and Thursday. Not yesterday, because checking in myself and the suitcase early enough to avoid the crowds (summer holidays started yesterday in the eastern part of Austria) was more important.
Anyway, I got to spend a lot of time with Janine, two evenings with my "children" from the visa department, whom I hadn't seen in five years, and with Gabriele, and yesterday morning with Klaus. I also saw my mother, which was a bit more on the depressing side, because nothing ever changes there.
My father's only sister -- I barely knew her, due to totally dysfunctional family, gah! -- died about ten days ago in India (she'd been living there for over ten years), and I suddenly remembered that I actually have a cousin, aged 40, whom I've never met. He lives in the US, somewhere on the west coast, and is a pilot. My brother has his email address, and once he gives it to me I'm going to make contact. Given our rather similar family issues, there might be some common ground to start with. I'm quite looking forward to getting to know him -- he's broken off contact with the family but occasionally exchanges mails with my brother, so he might actually be interested. He has inherited a flat my aunt possessed near Vienna and might come to Austria in September, and I'll certainly try my damnedest to go there when he visits.
Also, I met my new boss who will arrive on 14 November. Mixed feelings there, but I daresay things will go rather well. More about it later, when I'm not alf asleep anymore.

I think I'll give tennis a try. Pinar is playing too, after all, so it won't be too tough, and if I feel I can't continue, it won't be a problem.
