The two don't really go together. It can be done, though.
I gave Slavica August 15 - 26 off work -- she needs a holiday every now and then, and I was still on vacation till August 20. This time, so I vowed to myself -- and pretty much kept the promise -- I was going to actually do some household chores, because I don't want to live in a tip, and with three cats etc.etc. So I was being good and cleaned regularly.
Alexandra -- known to the f-list as Lola's former slave and would-be cat saviour, living in the flat next to mine -- did (of course) fail to take into consideration that, while she's not in Skopje, somebody has to look after her cats. Or rather, she did, but didn't give a monkey's about Slavica's holiday, expecting her to check in every morning for cat-duty. Needless to mention that I offered to step in.
So far, so good.
Then, however, Alexandra had the blindingly brilliant idea to offer her flat to Stefanie, who had to return to Skopje for the last week of August, because A. is on vacation and Stefanie doesn't need to stay at a hotel or friend's.
Did I do the callous thing and just leave the bloody place as it was, i.e. covered in cat hair, cat food (one of the two adorables picks the -- wet -- food out of the bowl with her paw and eats it) and cat litter? Of course I didn't, because Stefanie is my friend, and I imagined she wouldn't be overjoyed to arrive in a filthy place after twelve hours of driving in hellish heat. So I cleaned Alexandra's flat as well, feeling like an idiot but accomplished. Duh. The cats were having fun watching me, though.

Sherlock was re-watched over the weekend in its entirety, including the first, never-aired, 60-minutes version of "Study in Pink". I think I'll have to re-watch both versions another couple of times *coughnotforoglingCumberbatchcough* so as to be able to put my finger on what makes the 90-min version so much better than the original one. It's not just down to one single factor, of course; the difference in Sherlock's characterization plays as big a part as the pacing, the lighting and setting, the inclusion of John-meets-Mycroft, the nifty little trick of letting the spectator see Sherlock's thoughts... The 60-minute version might have been moderately successful, had they ever aired it, but it's more "CSI Baker Street" than the grittier, edgier, brilliant 90-min episode. Going for longer episodes was a stroke of brilliance.

Before I get started with what little work I have to do, I'd like to make two blatantly fangirly profound statements:
1) Please, Lord, Assorted Deities and Great Flying Spaghetti Monster, send a spark of inspitation to whoever has the money to make a film starring both Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes. Possibly as a gay couple.
2) On a less fervent but similar note: please compel BBC to do an adaptation of Dorothy L. Sayers and make them cast Cumberbatch as Lord Peter. And Rupert Graves, who is adorable, als Chief Inspector Parker.
Amen.

Now, work.
