It's a bit of a blah week
Sep. 28th, 2012 11:18 am...but today is Friday, which is good.
Tomorrow I'm going to Vienna for Janine's birthday dinner, and coming back on Sunday. Also good.
Even better: I've taken October 3-10 off work. Janine is coming to visit from 5-9. Diplomatic tennis tournament on October 6, i.e. my birthday -- no matter whether I win or lose, it's my birthday anyway and therefore a good day.
Exchange fic sent off yesterday. I'm curious to see how reading it will feel once it's been posted-- after such a lot of editing, seeing it again a few months later ought at least to bring some new insights. Or not.
I'm coming to appreciate the ministry's decision not to extend my stay in Skopje; I guess I strongly underestimated the weight of boredom, and am pretty sure I couldn't bear it for another two years. Due to a blinding flash of inspiration a few days ago, I decided to postpone any kind of official communication re. going back to Vienna until I've actually seen the list of available postings for next year. Because, even though a message has been sent out to everybody who got to leave their posting next year, the list of recipients might not be the same as the list of postings -- I suppose they wouldn't have sent that message to those who are going into retirement and strongly suspect that both Istanbul and Belgrade might become available due to the current occupants having reached retirement age. Announcing that I mean to return to Vienna could spoil my chances, so for now mum's the word.
Since I'm bored all the time but can't constantly play wordit, I re-read "Orpheus" a few days ago. It was written about eight years ago (I think), and in spite of quite a few things I'd do much better now, I quite liked it. (And at one point I almost cried, which is... well a bit silly, considering that it's a fic I wrote myself)
Oh, and since I sort of promised long, long ago to post a pic of my (not so) new (anymore) tennis coach, here he is -- he's the guy without glasses.

A bit of a cross between Rafael Nadal and Justin Bieber, and absolutely not my type (apart from being exactly half my age). But really nice, and an excellent coach.
OK, back towork sleep.
