At least not in my case. Experience maybe, but that's worth something only if actually used.
So, I did drag myself to the gym yesterday in spite of being terminally tired -- only about 70 minutes of pretty low-impact exercise, but it was better than nothing. Got home, felt strong craving for soup, made and ate soup. Had a glass of red wine with soup. Was of course feeling tired, but since it was only about 7 p.m. I fought it, not wanting to screw up my sleeping pattern.
A little after 8, I was feeling pretty chipper again, and when it was nearing 9 I decided to pop a DVD into the player and watch "The Horse Whisperer" -- can you belive I'd never yet seen that movie? Well anyway, I neglected to have a look at the cover re. its duration and therefore was unprepared for a movie that lasted almost 2,5 hrs.
I ought of course to just have pressed Stop at some convenient point and gone to bed, but -- and this is the bit where it becomes evident that the alleged age-wisdom correlation is just crap -- I didn't, needless to say, and stayed up till 11.30.
Given that I had to set the alarm for 5 a.m., 5,5 hrs sleep was all I got.
Fortunately there's a marked difference -- for me at least -- between getting that amount of sleep between, say, 10 and 3.30, or 11.30 and 5; I'm still tired, but not feeling as leaden, slow and crushed as I did yesterday.
The movie itself was, well, OK. I suppose it would have been horribly cheesy with bad actors, but Robert Redford, Sam Neill and Kristin Scott Thomas would make a Barbaba-Cartland-based movie bearable, so it was really quite good. And there were, of course, the absolutely stunning scenes with the horse, which more than compensated for the rather Hollywood-mainstream plot. Still, they refrained from bringing Redford and CST together at the end, which counts for something I suppose. (And I guess, this film being what it is, and having been made in 1998, it wouldn't have been possible for Annie/CST simply to decide on having both men, because who would say no to having a threesome with those two? Brokeback Mountain with benefits...)
A couple of hours still to go, and then I'll be leaving for home and massage.
