I would've liked to post the good news yesterday, but was far too incoherent with joy: Daniel, the loveliest of nephews, will be coming to Vienna on April 18!!! And I'm going to Vienna from the 25th to 28th! If that isn't perfect timing...
He's going to stay at least till the end of May, so there shall be at least one more weekend trip to Vienna, and probably he'll be visiting me here, too, and...
I actually cried with joy yesterday after our phone conversation. Much as I love my mother, brother and best friends, Daniel is the one person I love most on this planet. So you can probably imagine how deliriously happy I am.

I didn't get much writing done these days for the SSHG promptfest, and am chomping at the bit. I actually had work to do, and not much time at home -- OK, that's not quite true, but I suddenly felt compelled to watch all six seasons of Sex and the City all over again, so that's what I've been doing at home. And at work I was busy trying to balance the accounts. Due to the utter incompetence of all parties involved, our accounting system has made it impossible to check whether the amount on our bank accounts corresponded to what we ought to have, and that for a full four months. Not enough with that, the bank people are being utter dunces: it seems I have to request account statements for overlapping periods of time instead of back-to-back, because sometimes a transfer arrives in between (beats me how that can possibly happen, but it does), and then of course I've got either too much or too little. In order to understand what was wrong, though, I had to go through four months' payments by hand, until I'd identified the exact difference -- if I hadn't by mere chance seen the letter from the Ministry of Finance informing us about the tax refund we're due to receive, I'd still be poring over hundreds of payments. As things were, I had a blinding flash of inspiration yesterday when I realized that the 124.000 Denars overhang on the account can only be the tax refund.

I think I forgot to mention that Boss From Hell (Ankara) is visiting Skopje right now. I hope I can avoid her -- probably yes, unless she gets it into her head that she wants to have a look at the Embassy. I also have to say that the Ambassador was quite understanding: there's a lot going on right now politically (elections, visit of EU Commissioner Füle), and so initially he'd intended to send me along with the Daughter of Satan, while he went to the meetings, debriefings etc. So I told him, Sorry, I know I'm being unprofessional here, but I m not going to share a car with that woman, shake her hand or talk to her. If at all possible, I'll cover the meetings and write the reports, and you go with her. Which he did, bless his fat arse.

In feline news, I'm happy to report that the neighbour whose cats I'm feeding, and paying for their medical expenses, has seen reason: the one little female who was pregnant now sports a nicely healing, shaved belly -- the vet did the neutering and abortion in one go, which is a blessing for all concerned. The cat is still very young (about eight months) and also small, and therefore the kittens would have stood a small chance of surviving, and if they had, not only might she have rejected them, but also there would have been even more cats. So it's much better that way.
