You don't have 'great sex' with Sheldon
May. 15th, 2013 10:43 amWhich reminds me that I have to rewatch "When Harry Met Sally" soon.
Anyway, while it is doubtful that one can't have great sex with people called Sheldon, it seems regrettably probable that one can turn into Sheldon Cooper of Bing Bang Theory fame. More to the point, I may have turned into him.
Yesterday morning, the weather was still chilly and overcast, but the forecast promised improvement in the late afternoon. I forgot my sunglasses at home.
After the Heads of Mission meeting, i.e. around 11 a.m., the weather had already turned sunny, and the follwing dialogue took place between my UK colleague and yours truly.
UK: Oh, look, the weather's turned nice!
Me: Yes, it seems that my sacrifice for the Greater Good has been accepted.
UK: ???
Me: It's one of my secret super powers. I leave my sunglasses at home, and the weather improves almost immediately. You're welcome.
UK: O_O Uh, thanks?!
I giggled to myself all the way to the shopping mall.
On a different note: if couch-potato-ing was an Olympic discipline, I could couch-potato for Austria, but would have to compete for the championship with Irene.
After the Frozen Saints' visit, the temperatures are going up again, and the weekend (Pentecost, i.e. plus Monday, i.e. long) will be perfect -- cool nights, daytime temperatures up to 30°. Maybe two weeks ago Irene and I talked about maybe going to Greece, if the weather forecast was favourable. You know, sun, sand, sea...
The thing is, we're both deeply domestic creatures.
So, on the one hand there's sun, sand and (admittedly quite cold) sea, but also five hours' driving, or rather being driven, for each trip, not to mention that we'd have only one full day plus two scant half-days. For a total of about € 350 (more for me, because I'd have to pay Slavica extra for sacrificing a weekend).
On the other hand, there's perfect weather in Skopje, outdoor sports, an otherwise lazy, long weekend, having a sumptuous dinner on Saturday or Sunday at a nice restaurant, and watching "Breaking Bad". For a total of about € 100, if I factor in the tennis lesson and part of the dinner. (The dvd's don't count). Plus, not spending a total of ten hours in a car. And of course the exponentially higher relaxation factor, if only because sleeping in one's own bed is so much nicer.
So we decided against Greece.
I have to say that I don't regret it in the least. If swimming in the sea were already possible, I might have opted for going away, but sun, sand and sea without actually swimming in the latter really isn't worth all the time and money.
