*yawns hugely*
Jun. 10th, 2013 09:24 amSince I'm just tired, not dead, the DED icon wasn't quite appropriate. I wish, though, that I could do as the kitten in the icon...
The whole Embassy was invited yesterday to Ana's wedding -- she's one of our local staff, and certainly the Resident Beauty. As a bride, she was absolutely stunning, so much so that all of us females teared up when she entered the church. There'll be picspam later, but for now suffice it to say that she looked like a fairy princess.
So there was the ceremony at the church -- Orthodox weddings are an extremely informal affair, where the guests don't sit but stand, and everybody's free to amble around or slip out for a quick smoke. I hadn't intended to slip out but had to, because the incense became a bit too much. I can stand it in small quantities, but on a hot day in an enclosed space it gets choking very quickly.
After church, which lasted about 35 to 45 minutes, Irene and I took a quick detour to the supermarket to buy mosquito repellent (I have it at home, of course, but forgot to put it in my purse), and then went to the hotel by taxi. They did both the civil wedding and reception there, and it's really a very nice place. (Again, picspam to follow later)
There was great music -- the typical Balkans mix, which makes the legs twitch irresistibly -- and dancing, and food. The fact that both Gerald and the Ambassador weren't seated at our table certainly didn't diminish the enjoyment.
Since it was Sunday, Irene and I agreed to leave between 10.30 and 11 p.m., though -- neither of us functions at all on too little sleep.
I also prepared everything I was going to need today in advance, and considering the rather disgusting mix of sweat and mosquito repellent coating me from head to toe, I took a shower when I got home. Freshly showered and sipping a gin-and-tonic, I drifted off to sleep around 11.30 on the couch and then went to bed around 3.30 a.m.
So today I'm a bit tired but not completely dead, which is good. Monday is bad enough as it is, but zombie!Monday would be pure horror.
Slavica, who was at the wedding, too, will come to my place today, but I told her to sleep in and come whenever she felt like it. Just to do the bare necessities, and the rest will keep till Wednesday.
Still, I don't think I'm going to get a lot of work done today.
After work, a light workout, and then an early night, I daresay.
