The game is on

For those not acquainted with the organisational structure of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, it's divided into seven General Directions, which in turn are subdivided into departments, most of which are subdivided into subdepartments.
Now, I've had my eyes on one of the subdepartments in the GD for administration/HR for a long time. It will become available this year, and rumour has it that it's already pretty clear who's going to get it. Never mind, I'm going to apply all the same.
BUT: today they sent out the job description for another subdepartment in the same GD, which isn't too bad, either, and so I'll of course apply. The deadline is July 7, so there's enough time for me to formulate and consider and reformulate and reconsider. I merely have to overcome my reluctance to exaggerate my own skills or at least describe them adequately; I know I have to do it, and that everybody does it, but it's so... tacky. Anyway, the extra allowance that would fatten up my salary would be very welcome, and so I'll do my best to get over my personal inhibitions. Besides, I'm really qualified for the job (as I would be for the other one), and so it would be a shame if a misplaced sense of modesty prevented me from actually getting it.
Renovation work in my flat in Vienna started yesterday, and we already cleared up a few smaller details -- these things tend to come up only when the work has already begun, and since the company overseeing the process is a trustworthy one, I'm fairly confident that everything will go as planned.
Right now, I'm still unsure whether to buy a new bed and mattress here and have it shipped to Vienna together with my other stuff, or buy only the mattress here (I want memory foam, and that's way cheaper here) but get the bed in Austria. Decisions, decisions...
