It's so strange, knowing that it's the last, but not being quite able to believe it. Everything feels so... normal, as if it were going to continue like this. The mind is a strange thing, indeed.
Friday was pretty stressful, not only because I was doing administrative stuff left and right like an administrative dervish, but also because the Foreign Minister decided to invite the Heads of Mission to a briefing. These briefings are as pointless as they are boring, and everybody knows it, but I couldn't very well not go. Still, I managed to get everything done and even put in an hour of exercise (which I needed, in order to work off the stress).
I'd invited the whole Embassy staff to a farewell dinner on Friday evening, and we had a lovely, lovely night with excellent food (the oven-cooked lamb defied description), laughter and reminiscences. Given that Temporary Lover was there, too, the lovely evening came to a *most* satisfactory conclusion. He stayed the night, which was regrettably short (I fell asleep at 3.30 a.m. and woke around 6; he slept on till 7.30), then had coffee and a chat together, and he left around 9.
I did a few household chores, then made myself two fried eggs and went to sleep on the couch. Three much-needed hours later, I did a bit of cleaning and went to get a few groceries at the nearby mini-market, because I was expecting a friend for coffee at 3. So I served some biscuits and chocolates, plus a fruit salad -- just peaches, plums and grapes, but it's local produce and so sweet and succulent that all I needed to add was a splash of lemon and half a teaspoon of honey. After the friend had left, I poured a very generous measure of rakia over the rest and consumed it later in the evening, before bed.
Slept from 9 to 4.30 and am feeling like myself again.
Household chores already completed, and the cats are settling down for their usual mid-morning-to-mid-afternoon snooze. Very, very peaceful.
I'll go for a long walk later, followed by grocery shopping. Mood is excellent -- there's no denying that having good sex was a bit of an ego boost, and the fact that Rambo is getting on well with the grown-up Critters (Lola is still not happy, but fortunately not aggressive, and he seems pretty unfazed by her occasional hissing) is making me happy as well.
The next three days will most likely be stressful, too, but it's a finite number of days, and I'll cope.
On Tuesday the vet will be coming to the Embassy to fill in Lola's EU passport, and I'll go to have my hair cut and dyed, so I can show it to the hairdresser in Vienna -- I don't want to change the cut, and it's probably better if he sees it while it's still fresh.
And, because it's so very sweet, here's a picture I took yesterday of Rambo being very thoroughly groomed by his doting uncle Cornelius:
