Productive day
Sep. 20th, 2003 06:27 pmAs on almost all truly productive days, I'm smoking too much and drinking too much coffee. Caffeine and nicotine seem to be productivity-enhancing.
Anyway, I betaed 3 chapters of the German translation of "About a Potions Master", again and again marvelling at the difficulty of translating certain English expressions without making them sound stiff and starched.
Finished Orpheus 07 and proof-read all 7 chapters (again!! definitely obsessive) before starting on ch.8. It's turning out a little different than I originally intended it to, but I'm quite satisfied. The plot remains the same, but with Lucertola significantly older and Lucius's portrait doing unexpected things the atmosphere of the Malfoy subplot is now much darker and more oppressive. Ch. 8 starts with H and S visiting Mrs. Granger--I decided to make her very unlikeable in this story, definitely not the mother-in-law anybody would want. Disgusting woman. But there are going to be some very amusing (hopefully) scenes with her and Alastor Moody, who, if he's behaving as I want him to, will be quite taken with her. I'm really looking forward to writing those scenes. Pygmalion!Moody and Mrs. Uptight-and-Proper, that should provide some humour to lighten up the darker parts of the story.
Just to give you an idea, I'm inserting the first part of ch.8, which I'm admittedly proud of.

Quillusion has started posting a new story, Last Minute Crisis, only one chapter so far. Excellent, as was to be expected. And it seems she has already written most of it, so there might be regular updates.
