Pre-holiday stress (of the good kind)
Dec. 22nd, 2003 08:52 amThe loudspeakers for my stereo arrived Thursday evening, so I had to go get my new toy on Friday, which was when it all began. Went to retrieve stereo together with Janine, bought ornaments for Christmas tree, went home, set up stereo (complicated, or rather time-consuming, because the really posh stereos don't have pre-adapted cables and wires) and contemporaneously prepare dinner, then hurry to the airport and get Irene. She, Janine and I then had dinner at my place, followed by playing everybody's favourites on new stereo.
Ze Boyz were having a wonderful time, sniffing Irene's luggage, clothes etc., trying to steal our dinner and afterwards wandering from one to the other for extended cuddling.
Saturday morning was spent having breakfast and chatting, then Irene went to meet some friends, and Klaus dropped by for a chat and adoration of the stereo. Then I persuaded Janine, who was grumpy and headachy, to come over and sit on newly-bedecked couch, have tea and a cuddle with ze boyz instead of going to visit her mother. Which she did. Dinner followed by late-night chat with Irene.
We had to get up early on Sunday, because Hannah (Irene's daughter) was supposed to arrive at 8.30. Fortunately I called at the train station--knowing that trains coming from Italy are notoriously late--and it turned out that her train had picked up a 2-hour delay. So we went there a bit later, Irene got on her train to Graz, and I waited for Hannah, who arrived at 11.30. I took her home, fed her and put her into bed, then we went to see RotK at 6.
I haven't yet had the time to read about other people's opinion on the movie (and probably never will), but I liked it a lot, although I suppose that LotR purists might have lots to criticize. The only bit I was slightly disappointed about was the non-reappearance of Saruman, merely because the things he did to the shire and the Hobbits' horror upon their return are so very important for a better understanding of Tolkien.
Today will be dedicated to shopping with Hannah; my mother is going to drop by some time in the afternoon, and maybe there's going to be more cinema in the evening.
Apologies to everybody for not having answered comments etc., but there simply was no time. I'll make sure to catch up after Christmas.
