One of those days--everybody knows them.
I felt like crap when I got out of bed. As this has been happening a little too often these last weeks, I suppose I should go see a doctor. Not anything in particular, just a sensation of heaviness and stupor and general listlessness. Usually it passes after the second mug of tea. Today it didn't. And neither did it go away after the shower. So I checked the calendar, saw it can't be PMS, and resigned myself to my fate.
Weather was (and still is)... three guesses. Crappy. Not too cold, but humid, all the snow turned into greyish-brown slush. Argh.
So I decided to try and do myself a favour and went to the Kaffeehaus, where I spent a very pleasant hour reading Gogol and drinking strong coffee, water and strawberry juice (the best energy booster there is). It worked fine.
Then I did the shopping and returned home.
Only to notice that there was no water. So I asked the builders, and they told me that (as I had suspected) they were working on the main pipe (the house is being renovated from top to bottom, and it simply had to happen someday). So I asked when they expected to reopen the water. So they told me that it might not happen until 4 or 4.30 p.m. Loverly. There are guests coming tonight, I had to cook, I wanted to take a shower... And I couldn't even wash my hands, unless I wanted to do so in the toilet bowl.
At 4, I had a sudden inspiration (or rather, I probably unconsciously heard the toilet flush water supply refilling) and tried--water was flowing. Oh joy.
So I set about cooking and was just putting the finishing touch to the mayonnaise (needed for the Waldorf Salad) when the doorbell rang. One of the builders told me that the water was back, and did I have trouble with the pressure? I answered in the negative, thanked him and went back to the kitchen to finish my mayonnaise. And only when I had given it a thorough stir, did I realize that I'd put in salt twice, first before the bell rang and the second time when I'd gone back.
Then I discovered I had forgotten the crème fraîche.
I have no idea what else might happen today, seeing as it's one of those days...

But having written down my tale of woe, I'm aleady feeling a little better :)
