This and that, partly work-related
May. 17th, 2007 12:17 amAll calm here in Ankara.
The weather continues to be fabulous, i.e. about 30° during the day, around 15 during the night, dry and cloudless. The only drawback to all this fabulousness being that there'll probably be a water shortage in summer. Which means that the water supply is going to be cut off for whole days. Which is a right bugger when it's hot.
The ambassador ordered me to inquire about the possibilities of having a well drilled in the embassy garden. *headdesk* The embassy is at the lowest point of the city. Where there are now new city parts sprouting on the hills like mushrooms, there used to be garbage deposits ten years ago. Three guesses what the ground water (that a word?) will be like... Probably not the stuff you'd want to water your lawn with, much less fill your swimming pool with. Anyway, I'm making inquiries...
Next time I go to Austria, I'm going to buy a gun and shoot 1) lawyers 2) companies inviting Turkish business partners of whom they know nothing 3) middle-aged women inviting their 20-year old toy boys.
Tomorrow's an Austrian holiday (Ascension). 3 hoorays. My friend Lois is coming tomorrow, to stay till Sunday. He's one of my two male best friends, whom I've known for almost 15 years. 14 years ago I was madly in love with him, but the feeling wasn't mutual. We somehow managed to weather the crisis and stay friends. We'll have a lazy time, because there's absolutely nothing to be seen in Ankara, except for the citadel (a matter of 2 hours maximum). So it'll be talking, Lois meeting my friends, going to nice restaurants and maybe cinema or DVDs.
Oh, before I forget to mention it: Dear
shiv5468, I decided to drop my plans for a trip to London in favour of going to Vienna and seeing my mother. Trip has only been postponed though, probably to September. But I'm really worried about my mum, so I'll feel better using my holiday to spend time with her, as I'm sure you understand.
