Heavenly quiet
Dec. 21st, 2007 01:44 pmA bit too quiet, too, because we didn't have internet for almost 24 hours, due to a slight earthquake yesterday. (At least that's what one thinks, if first there's an earthquake, and then there's no internet)
It was the first earthquake I'd ever consciously experienced, and I must say I didn't like it in the least. That feeling of the house being lifted for a moment... *shudders* Not one of my favourites. But it was only 5,7, just the right thing for a beginner ;-)
Kurban Bayrami, as the highest muslim holiday is called in Turkey, started on Wednesday afternoon, i.e. the Turkish staff is at home - no visas, no phone calls, and things are slowing down in Vienna as well, due to the approaching holidays. So there isn't much to do. Doris and Jasmin + Stephan have already left for Austria, so it's Gabriele and me at the office in dignified leisure.
We'll need all the leisure we can get, because Turkey has - in spite of all our imprecations, Dark rituals tec. - made it into the European football championship 2008, which means we'll have lots of work next year. There'll be heaps of visa applications, repatriation of troublemakers etc.etc. We won't be allowed to go on holiday between February and July. Of course everybody is overjoyed.
This would be bad enough, but it also seems that we might have to sack 3 of our local staff due to fraud. So on top of everything, I'll also have to go staff hunting right in the middle of the busiest time of next year. Boy, am I looking forward to that!
In better news, Janine will be here for Christmas, and we'll hold a rather alcoholic and tree-less celebration at my place together with Gabriele. Present shave already been bought and wrapped, the menu has been planned, so no pre-Christmas stress.
I haven't done anything creative in weeks, but somehow that feels absolutely right. Maybe I'm in need of a break. No plot bunnies in sight, but I'm aware of tehir rather nasty habit of showing up unexpectedly.
Health is excellent - apparently my nasal polyps have gone, which means no surgery. I would've done it of course, but prefer using the steroid spray I was given for my inflamed sinuses, which have vastly improved.
That's it for the time being.
