Long absences ought to be explained
Jan. 16th, 2008 08:12 am... and at least I'm fortunate enough to explain this one while it's only starting to happen.
In other words, I've had three incredibly busy weeks, and the way things look, it's going to remain that way for the next 6 months. The European Football Championship 2008, which will be hosted jointly by Austria and Switzerland, will be a right pain in the neck to tackle. We had a mixed delegation here in Ankara last week, and I think we managed to develop a sensible concept allowing two very small embassies to handle the influx of an additional 12 000 visa applicants over the space of four months.
This, however, is going to need a lot of careful preparation, i.e. a heap of work in addition to the normal workload already now. Not to mention what's going to happen once the nightmare actually begins.
Add to that the Ambassador's brilliant idea of arranging visits of both our federal president and the foreign minister to Ankara in May and April respectively.
In a few, well-chosen words, it's going to be absolute shit.
Since I'll have to work weekends too in all probability, I thought it was preferable to let everybody know that I won't be around much (if at all) till the end of June.
I'll be checking my private mail, though, so if somebody found the time to inform me once my exchange gift (i.e. the one I receive) has been posted, I'd be eternally grateful.
I'm aware that the piece I wrote has already been posted - sorry, everybody who left reviews, but I simply don't have the time right now to create a sock puppet and answer. But I'd like to tell you how much I enjoyed your reviews.
Keep your fingers crossed, people - if I manage to pull off the EURO 2008 project satisfactorily, I'll get any posting I want for next year.
