I can't believe it's Monday already...
Jul. 28th, 2008 01:34 pm...but then, who can. I mean, if working people round the world could manage to forget their petty religious, cultural etc. rivalries and make a common effort, just once, we could easily obtain a four-day working week with a three-day weekend and maybe also a pay rise, if we played our cards really well. And for a while, this would be quite enough, especially compared to the old five:two treadmill. And there would be work for all the unemployed. Ah, utopia!
Anyway, the weekend was good - DVD marathon on Saturday with Gabriele, and lots of reading on Sunday.
A few weeks ago, I realized that I hadn't read Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey books for ages, in spite of being extremely fond of them. So I'd ordered a few straight away from amazon; unfortunately I've already finished them all: Nine Tailors, Five Red Herrings, Murder Must Advertise, Strong Poison and Busman's Honeymoon. I'm going to order the rest of them this week, so they'll arrive just before my holiday. I'll have them sent to Janine's address, because it would be more than slightly stupid first to pay the transport fee from Vienna to Ankara, and then take them back to Austria again.
I wish there was a stress-free way of taking ze boyz on holiday with me, i.e. stress-free for all parties involved. I always feel like a horrible person, when I'm enjoying myself while ze boyz have to remain at home and un-entertained. Of course I'm aware that they'd be many, many times unhappier if they first had to survive the flight, only to be packed into a car the day after, to be transported to a hotel they don't know, and then the same ordeal again ten days later. No, they'd definitely hate that. Plus, I remember how much I wished I could open the windows during the night, when last they stayed with me at a hotel. But there were no cat-proof screens, and it was very hot... On the whole, me leaving and them staying is a much better solution.
It seems that this year's
sshg_exchange is going to be a mega-event. So many participants, so many lovely prompts. And a Herculean task for the mods - you are very courageous people!
