Back in the heat
Aug. 24th, 2008 03:41 pm...of Ankara. Holy shit, it's hot here, about 35° Celsius. And dry and dusty. Still, the shock was less bad than the one I got arriving in Vienna, when it was hot too, and the humidity awful.
I tried to savour every moment of my holidays, but they were over too quickly nonetheless. I slept late, had long, lazy breakfasts with lots of coffee and a book, got a lot of writing done, I swam... aaah, it was wonderful. It was nice to spend some quality time with Janine - even though we talk regularly, sitting together playing dice poker and chatting is much better. I also managed to see my nephew Daniel, and yesterday Irene came down for dinner, which was lovely.
I started out being terribly homesick (mostly after ze boyz), but this time I decided not to keep it all down and smile, but talk about it, which was obviously a good idea, because I felt much better afterwards and was able really to enjoy my time in Austria.
Tomorrow it's back to the treadmill, but every cloud has its silver lining: During my absence the 2009 rota came out, and I'm going to send in my applications tomorrow: Amman, Nikosia, Skopje and Valletta. Besides I'm sure I've recharged the batteries sufficiently to be able to cope much better than I did the last few months.
And now I'll have to do the laundry. At least, with this heat, everything will be dry in a few hours.
