I also wonder whether I've gone completely bonkers. I had a telephone conversation on Friday with the colleague in Vienna who is responsible for planning next year's rota. She told me that nobody has applied for Ankara, and that she'd tried more or less to force one person (who'd be due to return to Vienna next year) to come here as my successor. The person half agreed, but the powers that be aren't too happy and don't really want that person to take over. So I said that, if they were completely unable to find anybody, I'd be willing to stay another year.
I know it's crazy. Bu I can't help feeling a certain, well, attachment to this Embassy and really wouldn't want it to go to the dogs. Besides, Jasmin wil stay one more year as well, because she's pregnant (3 hurrays!!!), so I won't be completely deprived of good company - besides who knows, the people coming here after Gabriele, Doris and the others might be nice as well - I love my flat, ze boyz are happy here, the money's good... And if I'm very lucky, the Ministry might even remember my brave sacrifice ;-) and give me something really nice in 2010 (coughDublincough). Plus, after clearing the air after July's cat accident, I'm getting on very well with the 1st Secretary, who'll stay till 2010 as well, so I needn't worry on that count.
We'll see. I'm prepared to leave and equally preared to stay.

sshg_exchange pinch-hit or joining yet another exchange. But... Oh, I don't know. It just doesn't feel like the right time, and it's no use trying to force myself to do it. Unless I feel I *have* to write it, it'll have to wait.
Daylight Saving Time ended today, so this Sunday is 1h longer, which is a good thing. Plus, I'm going to take off Tuesday and Wednesday next week, so there's something to look forward to. November won't be bad either, because my brother will be visiting from 21st to 23rd, then I'll be going to Vienna from 26th to 1 December (Jasmin will be on the same flights, which not only means company but also being driven to and from the airport by Stephan) . Christmas, too, has already been planned: Janine will be here from 22 to 28 December. Not bad, all things considered.
