I called both my "future predecessor" and another colleague who'll leave Skopje this year, to see if I could simply take over their house/flat.
Future predecessor lives in a house, which is much too big (we have this system which allows you a certain numer of points, depending on your function, number of family members etc.), i.e. she has to pay €200/month out of her own pocket. That alone would be acceptable, but apparently the house has some kind of ceiling heating - WTF, I've heard of floor heating but never of this strange contraption), which is not only expensive but also ineffective. So that's a no-go.
The flat the other colleague inhabits would be perfect. It's half a house, just the right size, which she shares with an old couple who are always at home and willing to look after the flat and feed her cats. But she won't leave before the end of August, and I don't want to leave ze boyz for 2 months in Vienna all on their own. It's good to know, though, that there's somebody in Skopje who'll go and buy a litter box and litter before I arrive.
Both assured me that the estate market is extremely relaxed, so finding a suitable object shouldn't be difficult. I'll make a holiday of it and go with Janine, if she likes. She owns a house in Vienna with about 20 flats, so she's quite knowledgeable, and two pairs of eyes see more than one. Besides it'll be fun.
