...which about sums up how I'm feeling.
Teeth have been cleaned yesterday and are now so pretty that I have to bare and ogle them whenever I pass a mirror.
But I've got a nasty headache -- combination of too little sleep, irritated nerves because of teeth-cleaning and strange weather -- and can't go home, because today is a Turkish holiday and I gave Gabriele today and tomorrow off. Which still wouldn't be a problem, had not the Ambassador fixed today as the day when her daughter has to give her fingerprints for her new passport. So I have to stay.
The colleague who is to replace Gabriele has arrived on Tuesday to stay a week in Ankara and go house hunting. He's been abroad for 23 years (something of a record I believe) and for the last 3 years, has been posted to Algiers. Compared to that, Ankara is definitely an upgrade, especially as he has a little daughter whose school in Algiers is guarded neither by police, army or private security, i.e. a constant nightmare of anxiety.
He's an extremely nice guy, and Gabriele and I went to dinner last night with him, which explains the lack of sleep.
He was posted here once already, in the early 1990's, and his wife is Turkish, so he'll have a relatively easy start as far as everyday life is concerned, which is always a good thing.
My lunch has arrived in the meantime, and it's salad and orange juice, so I hope the vitamins will help with both fatigue and headache. And I'm chewing it with my wonderfully shiny teeth...
