Almost done
May. 15th, 2009 08:25 pmPartly because of persisting back pain and partly because of sheer exhaustion, I haven't been around much these days. Back is getting much better, though (I'm going to see an osteopath in Vienna, even if it's completely gone by then), and I have taken off the whole of next week. So I guess things will be improving fast.
Landlord is coming tomorrow at 11 a.m. to inspect the flat -- nuisance, because it's Saturday morning, but otherwise there's nothing to be dreaded, because I've been taking care of the place as if it was my own. So there won't be any damage to be repaired, except for the things that'll have to be done once I'm out, like repainting the walls and maybe doing something about the crack in the wall of the smaller guest room which makes me suspect that the house won't be standing for much longer.
On Monday or Wednesday (Tuesday is a Turkish holiday) I'll have to get my fat arse into gear and buy a few things like new bed sheets, lotsof tights (there is no M&S in Skopje, and I love their tights) and other useful items. I also ought to start throwing away things. Fortunately this is a chore I quite like, so I probably won't procrastinate.
Speaking of my fat arse: I finally got 2 Pilates DVDs, one of which is too advanced for my current state of absolute un-fitness and will have to wait till later. The other one is excellent, with different sections for warm-up, basic programme, advanced 1 and 2 and special workouts for the back. My lack of strength is not surprising but highly frustrating, but I'm determined to do something about it and know from experience that, with a little bit of discipline, astionishing success can be achieved. And I really, really need to get back into form. I'm almost 45 and don't want to suffer from back, knee or other problems when I'm older. So yes, I'm motivated and hope it'll last.
What else? Oh yes, I caved in and ordered Dr Who season 4 (yay!!). And I read Neil Gaiman's Graveyard Book -- loved, loved, loved it. Am I the only one who sees certain similarities between Silas and Severus Snape?
I also watched Cranford and ordered a few books by Elizabeth Gaskell post haste. I must admit that I never read anything by her and am very curious, especially now that I've read or re-read most of Jane Austen's novels and think that the Gaskell - Austen comparison ought to be interesting. Let's see.
That's it for now. Tomorrow I'll read the flist, to which I'm looking forward immensely. And I'll catch up with the Snuna exchange, too. One week of freedom ahead! And after that, only one week left!
