What I forgot yesterday...
Jun. 23rd, 2009 08:43 am... due to cat-induced shock: I had to see a few people at the Ministry in the morning, among others the head of the human resources department. I've known him for some time and like him, and fortunately it's mutual.
At the end of our conversation he said, "Ms Schmid, I have to tell you something and I know you're going to be terribly angry. But I think I ought to tell you all the same."
Not a good start. And I got *very* angry indeed, because the Ambassador, may she be hit with something disfiguring and incurable, actually hinted to him that I've got an alcohol problem.
I must say, I'm speechless before that amount of malice. I mean, you don't like somebody and think they're the scum of the earth, OK. But in my opinion the normal thing to do when they're gone is to heave a big sigh and be relieved. But *this*??? You can't find any mud to throw at them work-wise, so you come up with THIS???
It's an allegation that's hard to disprove, and I'm very lucky that it was taken as what it is, i.e. an extremely nasty effort at destroying my professional reputation.
He asked me not to do anything about it. I said that, unless I hear that rumour from somewhere else, I won't, but that I'd take legal steps if she dares mention this to anybody else and it comes back to me.
