Feeling Christmas-y
Dec. 18th, 2009 10:06 amProbably because there is a thin layer of snow and the sun has come through, so that Skopje looks like Santa Claus Village. And probably also because I should have gone to Pristina today, but had to cancel the trip, so this is a completely appointment-free, blessedly quiet day at work.
Pristina fell through because Vienna proved to be rather inept.
Till 31 December, our Embassy here in Skopje will still be issuing Schengen visas to Kosovarians intending to travel to Austria; from 1 January onwards, the Swiss Embassy in Pristina is going to take over. Funnily enough, I learned as much from the Swiss colleagues, some time in November. Still no official information from Vienna. So the Swiss guys came over on 23 November, and we discussed the whole business, and lo and behold, in the end we realized that we had lots of unanswered questions. So I wrote a nice, long report to Vienna, asking for answers to said questions and pointing out that Charlie and I intended to go to Pristina today, in order to continue the discussion.
The day before yesterday I still found myself sadly uninformed, and therefore I wrote a mail and then called the consular department. Rather unsurprisingly they told me they didn't have any answers as of yet, and so I decided to cancel the trip. Mind you, the Swiss aren't much better off. Berne is remaining as stoically silent as Vienna. I really shouldn't be thinking too much about the whole business, but being dropped in the poo just makes me angry. And the Swiss colleagues are even more to be pitied, because they actually have to do the work, while we'll have considerably less to do...
