Daniel arrived on Wednesday; I had him picked up at the airport and delivered to the Embassy -- the 23rd was a working day, after all.
At 4, Charlie, our visa guy, and I prepared hot spiced wine and semolina pudding for everybody. Strange combination, which was Charlie's idea, but somehow it worked.
We'd had our Christmas do on Tuesday, and I'd got only 4,5 hrs of sleep, so the spiced wine kicked in like hell (no drunkenness, just tiredness).
Around 5.30, Daniel and I went home. He'd arrived with a bagful of dirty clothes, so we washed those, and when the washing was done, went out to have dinner at one of my favourite places here, where they do the best steaks I've ever eaten. And after getting home, we did of course stay up, drinking, talking and listening to music.
Given that I'd started the day at 5.30, and not exactly fresh as a daisy, I was rather pleased with myself when I had to drag the passed-out-cold nephew to bed at 2.30.
Got up at 7.30 yesterday (another short night!!) and went to gym at 10, and it really did help, because I came home feeling fresh and energized. Then Daniel went running, and when we'd finished our respective showers, coffees etc., we decided that the time had come for a walk through the city and a plate of antipasti, accompanied by a bottle of wine, at this phantastic Italian place.
It was 6 when we got home, and tiredness took over for a bit, but around 8 we felt strong enough to watch Love, Actually and afterwards eat the truly outstanding sarma (cabbage rolls) and bean puree the wonderful Slavica had left in the fridge on Wednesday.
I went to bed around midnight and slept the sleep of the just till 8.30 -- 8 hrs sleep really does work wonders.
Daniel is still asleep, but I'm going to wake him now. Slavica comes to clean at 11, so we'll have coffee and a chat with her, and afterwards set out for a loooong (about 3 hrs) walking-and-running trip.
We *have* to go shopping in the afternoon, mostly because we've run out of booze, but also for a vitamin or two, and in the evening we're meeting Charlie and his girlfriend to paint the town red.
Opera tomorrow, and afterwards we'll add another coat of red paint, just in case.

Not much Christmas spirit, but we're having a wonderful time.

Again, all the best to you f-listers, whichever way you spend the next days!
