May. 20th, 2010 10:37 amJanine came to visit last weekend, but we didn't go to Ohrid after all. We'd planned to leave on Thursday and come back on Saturday, but Irene had the migraine from hell on Thursday -- she gets them really bad, with vomiting and having to lie still in a darkened room -- and Janine and I didn't really feel like going just the two of us. Janine was also rather tired and quite happy about not having to drive and go sightseeing etc., and so we had a nice quiet weekend instead. I went running and played tennis, we did a bit of shopping and a very small bit of sightseeing in Skopje, went out for dinner, watched movies and talked.
The week so far has been rather quiet. Boss has been on holiday (returns today), and I had to go to some meetings in his stead and write a few reports, but that was ok.
On Monday, after the weekend with Janine, I felt like a completely quiet, antisocial evening at home -- I really like having her around, but I'm just not used to it, and so I need a bit of me-time afterwards.
Yesterday the Norwegians had their national day reception, and apart from meeting nice people I already knew, I also met a lovely young couple: he's the head of the IMF office here in Skopje, and Dutch, and his wife is Finnish. We had lots of fun, so it was a great evening. When I came home around 8.15, I was ravenous and had one of my very rare junk food binges. First, a whole packet of spicy sausage (from Montenegro, they make fantastic salami-type sausage), then cheese with mayonnaise, then popcorn with mayonnaise, and then Nutella. Nowadays this doesn't worry me anymore. I'm going to work it off today at the gym. Sometimes the body just craves certain food, so why not let it have its fill?
Tonight concert at the opera -- I'm quite curious, since they're going to perform some orchestra songs by Gustav Mahler -- and tomorrow is a Macedonian holiday, i.e. there won't be much to do.
And then *another* long weekend, due to Pentecost. Love it!!!!
