Me 1, virus 0
May. 12th, 2010 09:50 amHeh. My rabid immune system may be one of the causes of my many allergies, but it's also very handy when viruses attack. Yesterday was still rather blah, but I went to the gym after work, just for an hour, and that did a world of good. Stuffed myself with vitamins and trace elements, too -- to be exact, I've been doing that since last Friday, when I thought that the tiredness in my muscles might be due to excessive loss of trace elements because of sweating. Sinuses are as good as new today, cough much better, and since I actually got a good night's sleep, I'm feeling quite fresh and healthy. Death threats against Cornelius seem to have worked. I told him he wasn't going to live till his 8th birthday, if he continued to try and out-sing the birds at 4.30 a.m.
Sometimes I *do* feel rather stupid. I mean, it's been common knowledge for a looooong time that a bit of dextrose before sports is a good thing. Since I only have a small cucumber-and-tomato salad for lunch, with a bit of bread, I'm often hungry when I go to the gym. So I decided to try the dextrose trick, and it's bloody amazing. Not only does it make exercising much easier, the heart rate stays down liek whoa. Ususally, when I'm doing the running bits, it shoots up to about 150, and with previous dextrose consumption it stays under 140, probably because the body doesn't need desperately to get at the last dregs of blood sugar. So yay! for time-honed recipes.
Blerim, our driver, and I are going to test-drive the Toyota on the 22nd. I don't suppose there'll be many buyers here, 1) because driving automatic isn't exactly a widespread habit in Europe, and 2) because the community is very small -- diplomats can only sell to diplomats -- and thus buyers are scarce. So let's see, maybe I can get the price down a bit. (I looked at Austrian websites yesterday: a 3-year-old, automatic Toyota RAV4 costs around € 20.000 to 22.000. So 15.000 would be very cheap indeed, but I'm not against getting it even cheaper)
I think I'm never going to be a fan of driving per se, but the mere idea of just throwing my tennis stuff into the car, or of spontaneous outings, makes me happy. Of course taxis are cheap here, but always having to plan in advance, so that arriving punctually is possible, is a bit of a pain in the neck. Not to mention group outings -- I *hate* having to depend on somebody else. Sometimes I just feel like taking a break or going home or whatever, and unless the driver wants the same, one always has to compromise. Not a bad thing in itself, but I'd rather decide for myself, thank you very much.
