...and I don't have time to wait for the technician, at least not till Friday. Major Grrrrrrrrr, mostly because I can't listen to the Austrian radio news in the morning. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the laptop -- poor thing is already 7 years old -- and not with the modem, because computer was able to download updates for internet explorer, which means the connection has to be there and functioning. That's logical, isn't it?
It's so bloody hot here. Almost 40° yesterday; playing tennis as early as 9 a.m. was one of the sweatiest experiences so far. Irene and I had intended to go running afterwards, as we'd done on Saturday, but then we just looked at each other, sat down in the shade at the tennis club café, and had a coffee before going home. By taxi. Room temperature at home was 27°, so I switched on the air con and enjoyed the coolness while soaking my feet in cool water. We went for a 2-hour evening walk at 6.15, but you had to have a certain amount of courage (or, as Janine said, of terminal madness) to venture out.
The problem is that there is no wind. Dead calm, i.e. the relatively cool night air doesn't circulate, so I slept with the a/c switched on. It's got a "natural breeze" function, and the air flow isn't directed at the bed, so that was ok. Have slept better, though.
According to the forecast, the weather is going to stay like this at least till the end of the week. Unsurprisingly the idea doesn't make me deliriously happy. At least now I have an ample choice of really light clothes. Given that the week looks to be quite busy, I have at least the consolation of not having to sweat through meetings, dinners etc. If, that is, the a/c at the various premises is working.
Had first dancing lesson on Saturday and enjoyed it vastly. Dan, whom I view very much as my society slave -- i.e. he accompanies me to events -- had consented to take lessons together with me, and apart from the fact that he's not the world's most gifted dancer, it was great fun. The instructor is fantastic, and since it's possible to afford private lessons here, we did of course make good progress. This project will definitely be continued. There was no available space (they don't have dancing schools here, because the rent would be too much, so dancing classes are usually being held at school premises, in the evening when there are no students), because the holidays have started and schools are closed, so I'd suggested that we simply use my office. If you push the furniture against the wall, it's quite spacious.
Otherwise, no exciting news. More excitement to be had, I'm sure, when I open the electricity bill for June. If the weather continues like this, a nice adrenaline rush is as good as guaranteed.
