Drowsy Sunday morning post
Jul. 11th, 2010 07:14 amThe weatherforecast says that summer is now firmly back. This means that I'll have to give up my duvet for a light blanket, which is the only real drawback of summer, as far as I'm concerned.
Note to the elderly gentleman I encountered yesterday while running:
Dear Sir,
there is nothing undignified about being old, having tits and a pot belly, unless of course you're wearing white shorts and your t-shirt rolled down around your waist, for lack of a better word. Because from a distance of 20 metres, you look like a giant baby in diapers. A giant baby with spindly legs. And laughing while running wreaks havoc with my breathing.
Yours in near-suffocation

I made a really good salad yesterday, to accompany the chicken Irene and I had for dinner. Cut red cabbage very, very finely and roast in a lot of olive oil at very low heat -- mustn't get brown, only tender. Just before it's done, add finely cut leek. While the cabbage is on the stove, grate carrots (not too finely) and cut garlic (very finely). Add cabbage + leeks + oil to carrots + garlic, let sit for 10 minutes, add chopped parsley and salt.
If you want to make it a meal instead of a side dish, add walnuts and diced apple (the latter mixed with a bit of lemon juice, so as to keep it from getting brown), put slices of grilled chicken breast on top (DON'T mix! The chicken meat would turn blue!) and sprinkle with a bit of oil+mustard+parsley+tiny bit of orange peel marinade. Yum!
Did I mention that I love Babylon5? I LOVE Babylon5, so much so that I gladly tolerate Bruce Boxleitner. G'Kar and Londo are definitely the best-fleshed-out characters of the series, closely followed by Delenn, Dr. Franklin and Garibaldi. The captain and Ivanova are good, too, but too explicitly the Good Guys to be overly interesting, whereas Londo and G'Kar -- what an impressive range of grey. Plus, as I already said, I like the fact that so many of the small, secondary characters don't just make a one-time appearence but turn up again, like e.g. the foreman of the dock workers from the 1st seaon, who gets another vignette in season 2. I'm so glad I gave in to my baser urges and ordered the boxed set.
That's all. Tennis at 10, then running, then home for more B5, and of course the finale.
