So, the Viennese Ball has come back to bite me in the arse after all.
First, Alexandra persuaded me to go and sit at her table.
Yesterday before she went off to Vienna she complained that her co-director was being a bit of a pain in the neck: first it took him an eternity even to agree to have a table, and then he insisted on inviting not clients -- which would make sense for an insurance company -- but the head of the Tirana office + wife + daughter-cum-husband. This wouldn't be a big problem, but the guy from Tirana is notoriously unreliable. He might cancel at the last minute, and if that happens, there is no possibility anymore to invite clients, because making them feel like stopgaps seems a bit counterproductive.
So I, in the true spirit of "everything for my friends, and nothing for the rest" said, "Why don't I take the table I wanted to take in the first place, and you'll be there as my guest and bring your clients?"
Proposal was accepted with gratitude.
Anyway, it's going to be fun. And now that I don't have to worry about a dress anymore, the whole thing seems slightly more attractive.

Since I now have cable TV besides my satellite dish, Macedonian news aren't all I can watch. I also have Eurosport! I can watch tennis! Which I did last night -- it's fantastic to see that the real players make the same mistakes, only faster.

Playing late in the evening is only possible on Fridays and Saturdays -- Wednesday 9 - 10 p.m. was good, but I didn't feel tired till 1 a.m. Consequently I was a zombie yesterday, plus I had to go to a lunch -- set menu, with heavy fare, and once it's in front of me I eat it, unfortunately -- so yesterday's lesson was rather tough. It's difficult to persuade your body to move, damn you!, when it really wants to lie on the couch. But it got its wish later on, with boyz and food and watching tennis.
the fact that I couldn't stop snickering at the name "Hantuchova" is testament to my infantility. "Handtuch" means towel in German. But she lost anyway. And she was completely wet after playing more than three hours.Wet towel. Go figure.

I'll have a very informal dinner at my place next Friday, and this time round I'll try and prepare something nice for starters (main course in Slavica's experienced and capable hands). IKEA soup is always possible, but I'm thinking of making some nice salmon-and-trout mousse, which can be prepared two or three days in advance. Or chicken-and-porcini mushrooms. Let's see. Maybe with cranberry sauce? Yummy. I'm getting hungry.
