Thanks to my lovely friends Ursula and Stefanie, yesterday turned out to be much, much better than expected.
We went to Tetovo, where Ursula works as Austrian Lecturer at the (Albanian) State University, and Stefanie has an ongoing project with the tourism branch of a vocational school. Since both have been having problems, I accompanied them as some kind of intimidating decoration. Successfully, BTW.
Before we left, Ursula asked whether I had my heart set upon inviting the headmaster of the school, rector of the university and assorted minions to lunch -- the invitation hadn't yet been conveyed. I said no, I'd do it for their sakes but certainly not for my own. So we decided simply to go back to Skopje after our various appointments and have lunch, the three of us. I was a memorable lunch accompanied by two bottles of white wine, and it lasted from 2 to 4.30 p.m. Luckily I'd cancelled yesterday's tennis lesson already on Monday, so I was free to go home and have a nap -- needed to sleep off the wine.
The opening of the architecture week, which started at 8, was over quickly enough. I had to give a short speech, which I originally hadn't wanted to do, but then I gave it in Macedonian, earning applause from the audience, and then laughter, when I said, right, I have to switch to English now, or I'm afraid my brain might explode right here and now.
As I'd intended I left shortly before 9 and had an exceedingly nice girls' night out with Pinar and Elena.
Went to bed at 1 a.m., got up at 6.
Tennis from 9-11. Then lunch with boss and Austrian MPs.
Then taking boyz to vet for vaccination.
Then Pilates.
Then cocktail for MPs.
*boggles*
