Advice: never go wine tasting if you have to work the next day.
But that's what we did yesterday, at www.chateaukamnik.com. And OMG it was fantastic.
We tasted a Pinot Grigio, a Montepulciano, a cuvée (Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Montepulciano), and then... *cue reverent silence* a Cabernet Sauvignon late harvest 2009, which was so extraordinary that describing it is beyond my feeble capabilities. Strong notes of black cherries and clove, sweet but not oversweet, and just thinking of drinking it with a very ripe, intense Brie-type cheese made me drool. Or with some not-too-sweet, rich dark chocolate dessert.
And when we emerged from the cellar, the moon was big and yellow and partly eclipsed.
The five of us were the only guests at the restaurant, and obviously the chef was feeling frustrated due to lack of guests and hence plied us with warm and cold starters, accompanied by the Pinot Grigio we'd tried before. We were so full after that -- all we could manage was a bit of deer fillet steak (OMG!!!) and deer ragout.
I'm a bit slow today, unsurprisingly. And still dreaming of that late harvest, which will be released in a few weeks' time. They only got 3000 litres, so I'll have to be quick. But I absolutely must have some of those bottles, no matter how expensive.
Janine is planning to visit at the end of September, and the programme will certainly contain two items: 1) trip to Ohrid, but with an overnight stay, 2) wine tasting at Kamnik.
Speaking of Janine: she got two tickets for 30 June -- John Malkovich (yes, the very one) will be playing Jack Unterweger, Austria's one and only famous serial killer, at a theatre in Vienna. Am I lucky, or what?
Pilates solo lesson today at 5 p.m., then running with Stefanie. Then probably a lot of pasta with veggies, and then certainly sleep.
