..because we went to the pool yesterday, and it was fan-bloody-tastic. We only stayed there for about two hours, but that was enough, given that the proles were arriving and the sun was strong. I merely swam 26 lengths, i.e. 1300m, but that's ok. Provided the weather continues to be fine, there'll be more of the same next weekend.
On Saturday Elena and I had planned on playing two hours but agreed to stop after 1,5. It was so horribly hot, and we were playing in the sun, both not in top shape, and so we just decided to give the last 30 minutes a miss. Good decision.
The charity concert on Saturday was more or less ok, but boy was it hot. Fortunately it lasted only 1h 15, and the musicians weren't too bad. Considering how much I love Bach, though, the conductor committed a deadly sin by doing the second movement of a violin concerto so slowly that I almost fell asleep. The soloist wasn't anything to write home about, either. But I survived and got home by 11 -- offer of dinner with ex-opera director was more or less politely declined on account of having got too much sun and thus being on the brink of fainting -- changed plans from having a beer to having a "weißer Spritzer" (1:1 white wine and sparkling water) with a slice of lemon and a few peach slices. Then another one, and then hunger hit (I hadn't eaten much during the day), so I made myself a small omelette to go with it.
Yesterday, after I'd returned from the pool, I had a beer and a shower -- both much needed -- and then two hours of siesta, which was much needed and very, very pleasant. Got up at five to make dinner for Irene and myself. Very 80's but good: stuffed courgettes & tomatoes, with oven-baked potatoes. Given that the temperature was 34° yesterday, I briefly tried to convince myself that switching on the oven was sheer madness, but I really wanted to make exactly that dish, so my attempts at auto-convincing didn't succeed. The heat wasn't so bad, though, and the night was very cool, so sleeping wasn't a problem.
Irene had a rather taxing holiday in Northern Greece, with lots of walking and climbing and sightseeing, and it seems that sharing a hotel room with two people isn't quite her cup of tea. (Totally understandable, IMO) She has another day off today, to get the laundry done and generally regroup.

Today looks like an ok day, even though I was a bit grumpy at the beginning -- I'd really have liked to sleep a little longer, also because the air was so wonderfully cool and fragrant, and generally because I hate being woken by the alarm. But the mood has already improved, and today's tennis followed by Pilates is something to look forward to, even though I got my period yesterday and am not in top form.

Speaking of things to look forward to: tomorrow is Roger Feder's first game in Wimbledon! Anticipation enhanced by the fact that he'll have to wear white, which is always a treat.
