In vino bankruptitas
Oct. 24th, 2011 10:52 amWell not really. But I spent € 800 yesterday on wine, although in my defence I have to make it clear that 300 and a bit were for Janine's birthday wine.
It's a tad difficult -- as you doubtlessly both know and have experienced -- to find a thoughtful birthday present for The Woman Who Has It All. The wine tasting I organized for Janine's visit three weeks ago was therefore not just for fun and entertainment, but I wanted to find out whether there was anything she particularly liked. Fortunately she did, and so yesterday Irene and I went to the Kamnik winery to buy wine and have a very, very nice late lunch.
I bought:
6 bottles Chardonnay 2007 barrique (It's fabulous. I don't usually like Chardonnay, because it's too sweetish for my tastes, but the oak barrel gives it just the edge it needs)
9 bottles -- 6 of which for Janine -- Merlot 2007 (Truly marvellous and memorable. Pretty expensive, too, but worth every single cent)
9 bottles of Cuvée 2006 (Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano)
6 bottles of Rosé
10 bottles (but they're only 0,25l) of Temjanika Late Harvest 2010 (eyes-roll-back-in-their-sockets fantastic, especially with stinky, runny cheese)
6 bottles of Temjanika 2009
Heh. I can haz wine.
And Janine will be able to offer her guests something which maybe ten or twenty people in Austria possess, *if* there are that many. That's nice, isn't it?
The weather yesterday was perfect for a wine-cum-yummy-food outing: foggy, drizzly and cool. Hence no tennis, but I decided I'd be heroic and did an hour of step aerobic at home (before lunch of course), followed by 15 minutes abs. Now my calf muscles are sore. The Critters obviously struck some kind of strange cat pact, according to which they took it in turns to patrol the room and give me looks of pity mixed with incomprehension, bless their furry little arses.
Grey, rainy weather continues today, so I'm having doubts re. tennis later on. But I packed my running shoes as well, so I can go to the gym if the courts are too wet to play.
Oh, and I went to one of the shows of the Skopje Fashion Weekend on Saturday with Elena (tennis) -- we had an excellent time, and one of the designers even modestly impressed both of us. Unfortunately it seems that her creations can't be bought anywhere, if, that is, the almost-resultlessness of googling her is any indication (her name's Iskra Dzokic). Pity, because I might have acquired one or two pieces, provided of course they come in my size.
And Elena told me about a shoe factory outlet in Stip (~120 km south-east of Skopje), where they manuifacture shoes for some Italian brand. It seems that they're dirt cheap at the outlet, but very good quality, so a trip to Stip might happen in the near future.
Have a good week, everybody!
