Warm-up exercise no.3, for pyjamapants
Jan. 18th, 2012 12:03 pmFunny, how sometimes inspiration strikes, and I think, "Oh, this is going to be a piece of cake", and then, while I'm writing, it turns out to be anything but.
pyjamapants' prompt was "Severus, the Giggle Loop" -- those who are trying to make sense of this somewhat enigmatic choice of words, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iKjkPgVQcE
Definitely comedy. Severus falling prey to the Giggle Loop when he really, really shouldn't laugh... The situation that sprang to mind immediately was a Death Eater meeting, and it would've to be young!Severus, because it would be too difficult to imagine him laughing at a meeting after Voldemort's comeback -- not much room for comedy there.
What made it difficult to write, though, was the necessity of mixing comedy and at least a bit of darkness, without ridiculing the latter. I have to admit that I'm not entirely satisfied with the result. It would have had to be longer for a better blending of the two genres, but I didn't want to write 10.000 words.
Title: The Diagonal, The Abyss, and The Spiral
Genre: Humour tinged with darkness
Pairing: Lucius/Narcissa, not as a central element though
Words: 3.713
Rating: PG 13
Summary: Taking the Dark Mark seemed like the coolest thing ever. Then things get distinctly less cool, and self-control becomes vitally important. One day Severus's self-control slips...
A/N: I pilfered the "Bella Diagonal" from "How I Met Your Mother" -- it's Barney Stinson's theory, and he calls it the Vicky Mendoza Diagonal. Both the Sock Gap and the Giggle Loop belong to the first season of "Coupling"; they're products of Geoffrey's somewhat paranoid imagination. Jean-Christophe is my own.
