Yes, today I'm being whiny and needy.
Because I'm feeling aaaaaaaaawful.
*looks pathetic*
Partly it's my own fault. I started reading tome one of The Hunger Games and *had* to finish it, i.e. I went to bed around 00.30 a.m. and got less than five hours sleep. That would be bad on a good day, but today isn't a good day, because the damned cold is still maliciously loitering.
At least I've got an electric heater now at work, which means that I'm tolerably warm.
Apart from that, the feeling of having been eaten by something big and unfriendly, and vomited up again, is still persisting. Pilates yesterday felt like climbing a very high, steep mountain. So no gym today, because given the shape I'm in, endurance sports would not be a good idea.
I'm going to wait till tomorrow, and if the sinuses aren't markedly better, I'll have to get a prescritpion for anitbiotics, because what's coming down my nose in the morning ought by rights to be taken to a toxic waste deposit. TMI, sorry.
My skin is awful, too, all dry and feeling too tight.
Maybe I'm going to stay home tomorrow.

That much whining has to be counterbalanced somehow, though: Janine sent me my X-mas present with the last diplomatic mail. It's a Philips Sonicare electric toothbrush + airfloss, and it's fan-bloody-tastic. After having used it for three days, my teeth are feeling as if they'd been professionally cleaned. Plus, using it is fun, because it's such a nifty little thing that gives you an acoustic signal when you should move to the next quadrant, and you can choose between Clean, Polish, White, and Gum Massage, and... Yes, I'm in love.

Also, The Hunger Games: it's not brilliantly, but well written, certainly well enough to make me overcome my habitual reluctance to read first-person, present-tense narrative. The premise is interesting, though not hair-raisingly original -- privileged people watching underprivileged people kill each other has both happened and been written -- and the main characters are well-fleshed-out. There's a good balance between plot-driven and character-driven; even though the element of suspense is important, the protagonist's inner conflicts and motivations are an equally important carrying element. (Pessimist that I am, I suppose the movie version will be all action and no inner drama...)
BTW, are split infinitives the new black? An editor worth his or her money really ought to eliminate those...

I foresee more reading tonight... (prediction made without the aid of a crystal ball)
