Self-doubt, we hates it
Feb. 21st, 2012 09:05 amOh fellow writers, do you know that feeling? You're trapped by a plot bunny or get a prompt, and you have some nice ideas for the story, and you're in the middle of writing, and suddenly self-doubt manifests itself -- does what you've written so far seem totally trite, flat and unoriginal just to yourself, or will it be the same for the readers?
It's something one has just to get through, teeth clenched, fingers welded to the keyboard and buttocks firmly planted on the chair, but I do hate those times. It's a good thing I do so much of my writing at work, though, because the possibilities of distraction are very limited, compared to writing at home.
Since now seems as good a time as any for repeating my ceterum censeo, i.e. "I love and miss my former boss", I just have to say that I love and miss my former boss.
Recent email exchange:
Me: Congratulations on being named Roving Ambassador for Southern Caucasia! So now you'll have to work with Daughter of Satan (A/N: the Vienna-based Embassy is part of the department for South-Eastern Europe, of which she's now the head) Don't despair, though: after crossing the Styx about 500 times, even Charon got used to Cerberus waiting on the other side.
Boss: Not sure whether 500 will be enough. Are you saying I've been downgraded to Rowing Ambassador?
*sighs wistfully*
OK, 'nuff sighing, now I'm going to write more of that HG/LM fic.
