when you don't only talk to your cats, which (I hope) is more or less normal, but if the, erm, conversation goes like this:
Me, getting out of bed, heading towards loo: Morning, Lucius!
Heading towards kitchen, can of cat food in hand: Morning, Cornelius, morning, Lola!
Heading towards computer, tea mug in hand: Morning, Lucius -- oh sorry, we already said good morning!

Yes, well. *headpaws*

The Ambassador is on holiday, and life is a lot more enjoyable.
I was especially grateful yesterday for his absence: due to two power blackouts Monday night, the Embassy buildings electronic locking system had passed out, i.e. we could get into the building using our key cards, but the door to the inner part refused to open, so we couldn't access our offices. So everybody was sitting in the common room on the 2nd floor, chatting, drinking coffee and waiting for the locksmith, and I was already bracing myself for having window grilles cut and locks drilled. The denouement was somewhat anticlimactic -- the locksmith opened the door by means of the good, old credit card method. So there went my thrilling scenario of actually burgling our own Embassy...

What does the fact that this was the most exciting moment of the last, oh, seven days say about my life?
Yeah, no need to reply.

Also, I have to confess that a) I've always made fun (if not always to their faces) of people who buy videos of sports events but b) I nevertheless bought two dvds of the 2008 and 2009 Wimbledon Men's Finals. This is of course different *snorts at self* because I needed them for educational purposes -- it's amazing, the effect you can achieve by watching a stellar tennis player over and over again: among many other things, what you need to become a better player is an image you can visualize yourself imitating. It really does work; my serves have improved a lot merely by watching and visualizing Federer (the latter underscored by the Rolex jingle).

Today I'm going to have my hair cut and dyed, then on to the Swedish Embassy to sign the Book of Congratulations (birth of princess), and then to lunch. I even remembered to bring a book, because it's going to be a nice, leisurely lunch on my own. Sometimes I need that.
